The Life Of William G T Shedd by Jason Burns

William G T Shedd born June21 1820 was one of  the great theologians America has produced .I think he is an intellectual giant and needs to be read much more today by christian thinkers.
In 1835,Shedd enrolled at the Univeristy of Vermont.As a student he became deeply affected by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Transcendentalism.In 1839 the student graduated and taught school for one year.In this time he started to attend the Presbyterian church.It was not long before Shedd was called to the ministry and entered Andover Theological Seminary in 1840.He studied under the theologian Leonard Woods.He graduated in 1843.For a short time he Pastored a church in Brandon,Vermont then became Professor of English Literature at the University of vermont in 1845 to 1852.He became professor of sacred rhetoric in Auburn Theological Seminary in 1852 to 1854.The in 1854 to 1862 he became Professor of church history at Andover Theological Seminary.For one year he was an associate pastor of the Brick Church of New York City,and became  professor of Sacred literature in 1863 to 1874,and then Professor of systematic theology in 1874 to 1890 at Union Theological Seminary.The theologian died in new York on November 17,1894.

Dr Shedd was a Calvinist and one of the great systematic theologians of the American Presbyterian church.His great work Dogmatic Theology in 3 volumes is rich in philosophical learning and Biblical exegetical skill.
